Sohel Haji the Eunuch
I first met Sohail Haji at the All India Hijda Sammelan at ParkSide Vikhroli Mumbai he is a favorite among the eunuchs of Delhi, with great dress sense , a superbly graceful dancer a Mujra dance exponent , we got talking became friends without realising that we would once again meet at Ajmer for the Urus of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishty when Basanti the Eunuch Queen called me out from a window at Moti Katra , Zubair Bawa and I went up to pay my respects , but I banged into Sohel who hugged me quite intimately this really got Basanti all worked up as she had called me up, such is the playful animosity the Hijdas have for each other, they can be dangerously jealous if their toy boy showers his love on another Hijda , they might even go to extent of snipping of his member , bobbit as you guys love calling it…God save you from the Fury of a spurned Hijda, I have told you a story of a relative of a distant family in Kanpur , very good looking and he was a live in of a Hijda , and he was kept by the Hijda , I had met this good looking guy when he visited Mumbai to try his luck in Bollywood as an actor, however , his family wanted him to get married , the Hijda came to know of this and killed him it is alleged very brutally too… the case like other cases of passion died a unsung death,,,The murderer Hijda on the loose , as told to me by his aggrieved relatives..
Sohel is a fine human person that is how I equate with the Hijdas.. there are good and bad among all communities, but some of the good looking Hijdas are very haughty, arrogant highly conceited, very proud of their duplicity , I detest this kind just ignore them, you meet this kind at the Dargahs mostly , these are perhaps in the service of high end dance bars and brothels..

I never knew that I would get so obsessed with the Hijda community, write so much about them, the same thing happened to me as a camera collector, I thought I would buy a few old twin reflex cameras as collectibles to show case in my shop , I eventually ended collecting about 300 cameras, movie cameras, flash lamps, other memorabalia…this was one hobby that my wife did not forgive me for, her word Bhangar .. which means useless articles of no value..
I know for a fact if I took these to Goa theywill all be sold in a few days, but than this not my metier, I am into stitching garments I am a Darzi a Tailoring man which sounds better than Designer No1..I was given this title by actor Govinda who used to do most of the No1 Films..
I love Books all kinds I ended up collecting rare books , poetry photography literature, that I have kept them at my shop there is no place at home..
In Delhi the one person I really wanted to connect with was Sohel Hijda but it never happened.. due to my short stay and the wound on my hand.

Sohail Haji, had just come from the Dargah after placing the Chaddar with his troupe , this is called Sandal, Sandal wood paste the most expensive item is applied to the Shrine of The Holy Saint and rose concentrate called Attar, flowers carried in hand woven cane baskets, barefeet, they dance in abandon, whirl and twirl, along with them their Gurus their cute chubby faced toy boys, the drummers that accompany them no vocals , just instrumental in some cases the Shehnai, the exponent of Shenai, Bismilah Khan, died yesterday .. he believed in the universality of Music that alligned with all Faiths paid the sepulchral shehnai during Moharram dressed in black and barefeet Ashura day.
