Marziya is crazy about her dad Asif Shakir…and there is no denying this as a fact from the day she entered our house. She eyes her father devotedly , a quality I find very strange , for an infant 2 months old.If she goes on a rampage , like she did last night , it was her father who quietened her down, and they understand each other far too blissfully..
She loves her mother for all the comforts of life, but the special person is her dad, she charms him with her smile and will go onto his lap as he works on his comp, I see another whizz kid in the making- Asif is a website developer and soft ware programmer.Another person she has a good go is Saif Shakir my younger son, Samiya my daughter too takes kindly to her, and Marziya Shakir loves to be carried around the house , the moment you dump her down she will scream her lungs out..
Her grandmother my wife is always carrying her and talking to her..yes Marziya is a conversationalist.
Marziya loves the camera , and the moment I go to take her pictures she lights up like an additional camera flash, giving me rare poses and displaying unusual emotions..
I cannot start my mornings without seeing her cherubic face, its after I have seen her , chatted with her that I go to my work place..

This is from the famous Yaksha – Yudhishtira Samvaad :
The Yaksha asks, “What is the most unbelievable thing in this world?” Yudhishtira answers without hesitation, “People perpetually die in this world, but man acts and lives as though he will never die.” The story goes on that Yudhishtira answers all the questions posed to him, and in return, the Yaksha brings all the Pandava brothers back to life.-ppc

Archana Hijda, originally uploaded by firoze shakir photographerno1.

I am very fond of this Hijda , her innocence and it shows see has seen good days in life. She recipocates the same feeling and calls me Bhai, elder brother , this the human quality of Hijdas, and why they and I are intertwined on a karmic journey to the unknown.
Archana is greatful to me I recently went to hit a fruit seller who was unecessarily hassling her, and the fruit seller too became a good friend later on when I told him that he was lucky that his sexuality was intact and not deformed like the Hijdas..
Archana waits for me to pass by to work either on foot or if I am late in a ricksha, they all know my wife as after closing shop we both leave together, last night the Hijdas were at the signal till 9 pm..must have been a bad collection day for them because of the chilly conditions and severe cold on Mumbai streets..
The worst misfortune for the Hijdas is if the Signal gets konked than the traffic moves without stopping and this thought makesthem shudder..
They come from Antop Hill and Dharavi.. a far distance to beg at this elite Bandra traffic Signal.

The Hijdas of Turner Road at work, as the vehicles stop at the traffic signal, they move from car ro car , but most of the car owners are stingy ,and are locked up within their airconditioned tinted glasses comfort, so it is passengers in cabs and rickshahs that the Hijdas appeal to with a customary two hand hijda clap. The Hijdas come here at noon and leave by 7pm, they hardly work later than 8 pm..
All under the strict eyes of their Guru..
This signal is a profitable one and an arterial point diverging in various directions..
These are Hijdas who are the lowest rung, and are not into soliciting or prostitution, as a matter of fact they have husbands , normal men who are migrant laborers, and the Hijda too needs a sexual release. The Hijdas wear the mangal sutra showing their marital status. The Hijdas at the Signal work peacefully, and the pressure is on as theTurner Road Traffic Signal kids hve disappeared completely, that is why I did not shoot kids with flags on Republic Day 26th Jan.2008.

The Hijdas of Turner Road-Photo Blogging

.flickr-frame { text-align: left; padding: 3px; }
.flickr-caption { font-size: 0.8em; margin-top: 0px; }

All the Hijdas that beg at the Turner Road Traffic Signal, are known to me, and I meet Hijdas most unsuspectingly in my walks of life.
The Turner Road Hijdas are polite, disciplined lot, not mean or demanding unlike the crass quality you meet at Bandra Band Stand that harass romantic lovers who come there to share private moments..
I only know Archana Hijda by name the rest I only know by face and my trinkets they wear around their necks..I give them money generously the least I can do- my wife who is with me in the rickshah says that I am crazy to shoot the same Hijdas over and over again.Perhaps I am, I dont have much choice at Buzznet I was more into writing my thoughts to a responsive readership of like minded friends, here at Flickr I post pictures and answer comments.I delete comments that rephrase my thought or the thought of my picture, I dont need to tell people why I shoot or what I shoot.. I am a poet photographer trying to unburdem myself as a blogger.
Having self exiled my self from Poemhunter has been a catharsis of sorts for my restless poetic soul, I was never into competetive photography or poetry, being one of the Top 500 as Firoze Shakir and as Love Poetry Hate Racism, got me more enemies and less friends.Poem hunter added to the notoriety of my myth as a poetry blog.
Yet I owe to a few friends at Poem hunter who helped me grow and their advice and encouragement helped me in more ways than one…
Poetry is rythmic condensed thought, juggling of words giving life to emotions pertaining to ones own private moments as I saw it..My poetry was born through pictures and episodic – I am not a ” poet “poet per se..
I have completely stopped cross blogging from Flickr to my Blogspot site as Word Verification was an unreluctant dildo up my creative ass, the most outdated and annoying tool and the technos at Blogspot a million light years away from modernism, and in a way I admire Matt of Word Press and his automatic response to changing times..I stay connected to my site at Word Press- I have three blogs there..but if they made uploads free , than that would be a silver lining in an incoriggible bloggers life.
And I am happy at Flickr only if they could add Comment Moderation before a comment from a sick mind defecates my photo blog, would be a thought in the right direction..
And that means you dont have to go blocking all the sickos and mental retards – a small band that loves creating chaos because theywant us to toe a definitive line imposing a racial profiling attitude to freedom of expression…a freddom of expression that does not hurt humanity or human sentiments.

Well back to Hijdas, of late I have been meeting theHijda Devdasis who have come t Mumbai in large numbers , I have no intention of writing a book, I am curuios about their life style so I shoot their pictures without morphing their lives and share it with all of you.The Hijdas and Transgenders are an integral part of humanity..I pay respect to them through my Photo Blog..

This is a Grotto buit by the Portuguese in 1698 at Bandra Bazar Road..this stone and the rest of the relics were discovered while digging accidentaly..and this is the heritage of Bandra where I stay..
Bandra Bazar Road the most neglected area and if you visit this place during the monsoons you better bring a float with you.. this is one of the places that looks like Venice..
At the moment the respected corporators are busy placing new tiles on the roads while the basic infrastructure remains as bad as ever, the Bandra Bazar Road Market is the filthiest in Mumbai..

The headlines in Times of India dated Jan 29 2008
3KG students burnt alive in a van blaze..
Nitasha Natu

“In a horrific accident , three kindergarten students were charred to death following a gas leak in a Maruti Omni( van) that was to ferry them from home to Millat High School in Jogeshwari…on Monday afternoon.”

The government will offer a lac of rupees to the deceased’s family and Rs 50000
to those severely injured and life goes on. only an accident of this proportion wakes us up from apathy and stupor , no safeguards, just pure corruption and a social system that sucks..
We as Indians produce babies irrespective of our infrastructure, a Nano car will hit the streets and no vehicular traffic infrastructure, bad roads is an understatement – killers roads would be more like it kidney scams ,a Doctor who was on the run from Mumbai in 1994 surfaces in Gurgaon and mocks at the laid back attitude of our investigative agencies., amassed crores under their noses and they were left snoring…
Yes India is shining but not in the dark areas of mans life, deaths continue , corruption unabated..

death on wheels
three little children
going to school
their fate seals
their soul he stalks and steals
wounds on the soul
of our society
doling out compensation
is what makes the government
feel -it heals
more tragedies waiting to unreel
no one knows how to deal
political chutzzpah and cover -up
as selling spiel
this is the home truth
no one wants to reveal
